Just to prove that we were first

When you think of Chicago Force, you probably think of die-hard Star Wars fans who, while being good natured and charitable, let nothing (including George Lucas) stand in their way when it comes to enjoying all things Star Wars. From con room parties to charity drives to the many clubs, we do nothing half-way.

So it should come as no surprise to you that we were first to be in line for Episode III, whatever it will be called. May 9, 2003 marked the beginning of the official Chicago Force Line Up for potentially the last Star Wars movie.

Help Chicago Force Support Our Troops!

After the success of our toy drive to help a critically ill child earlier in the year, Chicago Force has decided to start a drive to collect books, comics, and magazines to send to the MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) departments of ships stationed in the Persian Gulf. We ask that you look through your old stuff and find something to donate. It will be a long while before a lot of them are back on U.S. soil, so sending them something fun to read will really brighten their day and show them that we are all thinking of them. Regardless of your position on the war, we ask that you still support those who are out there in this thoughtful manner.

We will be making our first collection at our April 26 book club meeting, although arrangements can be made to pick up your donation if you cannot make it out there. If you have any questions, send an e-mail to Matt Springer (DarthAstuart). For the latest information on Chicago Force events, visit www.chicagoforce.org or our FanForce forum.

Chicago Force Book Club Meeting

On Saturday, April 26, at 1:00 P.M., Chicago Force’s Errant Venture book club will discuss Tatooine Ghost by Troy Denning. Six months after their marriage, Han and Leia, along with Chewbacca and C-3PO, are sent to Mos Espa to recover an Alderaanian painting containing secret Rebel codes. While tracking the artwork, they uncover secrets of the Skywalker family. Join us as we talk about this book which bridges the gap between the prequel and original trilogies, taking place between The Courtship of Princess Leia and Heir to the Empire.

The meeting will be held at Borders at 150 N. State Street in Chicago. A 20% discount on the book is available for those participating in the group. Please note that this discount is only available at the Borders on State Street. After the meeting, at approximately 3:00 P.M., we’ll have some lunch at Bennigan’s at 225 N. Michigan Avenue. If you have any questions, send an e-mail to city moderator Phil Salomon (Mos_Eisleian_Radio). Chicago Bulls Game

Looks like the Bulls hit a nerve at LFL. When we arrived at the United Center, we were told that even though 20th Century had approved the CharitaBULLS screening, LFL had not, and that they had sent a Cease & Desist order to the Bulls hit idea on having the charity screening.

The staff for the Bulls was incredibly nice to us and the costumers spent a couple of hours before the game, walking the corridor and talking to everyone who would listen, taking pictures with people, etc. It was, as predicted, a huge hit. If we had been able to sell tickets, we probably could have sold out both showings and started working on a third. They allowed us to watch the game from a press box at the top of the stadium, and many people stayed around for the entire game.

So it looks like as long as LFL has the Bulls hit with this block, we can’t do anything towards the charity screening. The Bulls said they would fight it, so stay tuned for updates.

Chicago Force says farewell to AOTC on IMAX

Five months after its huge debut, Attack of the Clones: The IMAX Experience is leaving Navy Pier IMAX. On Friday, April 4, Chicago Force will gather during its final weekend. We’ll meet at the box office at 8:30 P.M. for the 9:30 P.M. showing. If you’ve never seen AOTC in the IMAX format, you owe it to yourself to see it on their 60-foot-tall screen with 11,000 watts of sound. Look for the Chicago Force t-shirts. Afterward, we’ll head to Dick’s Last Resort to toast its departure.

Navy Pier IMAX is at 700 E. Grand St., Suite 115. Tickets can be bought at the box office or at www.imax.com/chicago. Since there is only one showing of Attack of the Clones that evening, we strongly encourage you to buy your ticket in advance. Whirylball makes its CF debut

March 16, 2003 marked the first-ever Chicago Force Whirlyball outing. You say you have never played whirlyball? Well, neither had we.

Whirlyball starts with those plastic scoops you played with as a kid. You know, the ones where you would scoop up a ball and fling it at someone. They would try and catch it with their scoop and fling it back at you. OK, now add a court and basketball-style goals. Now put everyone in bumper cars. That is Whirlyball.

If you didn’t make it out, you missed quite an event. Everyone had a blast, and we played with the abandon of those who have no idea what they are doing and know they look silly, but don’t care because, well, everyone else looked silly too.

Chicago Force Book Club Meeting

On Saturday, March 22 at 12:00 noon, join Chicago Force’s Errant Venture book club at the Barnes & Noble in Schaumburg as we discuss Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. After that, we’ll have lunch at Fuddruckers at approximately 2:00 P.M. If you can’t make it out to the bookstore, have some burgers with us!

Barnes & Noble is at 590 E. Golf Road in Schamburg. Fuddruckers is also in Schaumburg, at 436 E. Golf Road. If you have any questions, send an e-mail to suburb moderator Thom Olsen (ThomSolo). For the latest updates on Chicago Force events, visit www.chicagoforce.org.
